Ultra-thin Custom Shims: dimensions and quotation parameters.

The dimensions below help us review ultra-thin custom shims. State units and critical tolerances on the original drawing. The illustration explains the type of geometry; it does not define a standard size.

Quotation parameters for Ultra-thin Custom Shims
Shim thickness & toleranceGive nominal thickness and its permitted variation separately from profile tolerances. Include the measuring method if it matters to acceptance.
Outer contour & cutoutsDimension the outline, holes and slots from clear datums. A DXF plus a dimensioned PDF is useful for complex profiles.
Flatness & contact facesIdentify the bearing faces, allowed bow or distortion, and the condition in which flatness is measured.
Burrs & handlingSpecify allowed edge burrs, cleanliness and packaging to prevent delicate parts from folding or tangling.
Material & quantityGive the exact metal grade, standard, temper or condition, quantity per revision and planned repeat orders.
Units & tolerancesUse mm or inches consistently. Mark the dimensions that control fit and the inspection datum.

Ultra-thin Custom Shims · qualitative geometry reference. Not to scale, not a production drawing.

Thickness range, minimum features, tolerances, finish availability and delivery date are reviewed for your actual part. No catalog dimension or blanket machining tolerance is implied.

What we review
before cutting.

Cut contours, hole function and the way the plate meets its mating parts.

Thickness is a separate requirement

A cut outline does not establish sheet thickness accuracy. Agree the incoming shim-stock thickness specification and any required measurements.

Delicate features

Mark narrow bridges and small openings. Material, thickness, feature layout and handling are reviewed together before the cutting route is agreed.

Material and finish
belong in the drawing.

Grade, environment and visible-face requirements are separate specification choices. Include them before quotation so the material and process route can be reviewed together.

Specify the grade

Specify the exact metal grade, shim-stock condition and thickness tolerance. Stainless steel, carbon steel, brass, copper and aluminium requests can be reviewed; availability in the requested thin product form is confirmed during quotation.

Compare material families and grades. Sourcing, product form and the processing route are confirmed for your drawing.

Define the finished surface

Specify the delivered surface condition and identify any coating, grinding, plating or masking requirements. Mark roughness and the faces or edges that need protection so the complete route can be reviewed.

Specify edge deburring, protective-film handling and packing if they affect the delivered part. Read the finish terminology guide.

Material options are reviewed against your drawing, grade, thickness and finishing needs. Stainless steel remains our core focus; sourcing and the manufacturing route are confirmed during quotation.

Inspect the features
that matter to your assembly.

Inspect the profile, thickness at agreed locations, critical feature positions and specified edge condition. Include flatness and handling acceptance criteria on the drawing.

Provide the inspection datum, critical dimensions and any requested records with the inquiry. A model preview supports communication; the approved engineering drawing remains the manufacturing reference.

Quality & material requirements

Ultra-thin Custom Shims:
common questions.

What is the minimum thickness you can cut?

Send the material grade, requested thickness and drawing. The minimum thickness, smallest features and achievable edge condition are confirmed for the actual part.

Can I order several thicknesses of one profile?

Yes. List quantity and thickness for each version, with separate identifiers and packing instructions to avoid mixing parts.

What should I send for a quotation?

Send your ultra-thin custom shims drawing, grade, thickness or tube section, quantity, finish and critical dimensions. A clear PDF or image is accepted for review; a DXF supports flat cutting contours.

Can I request prototypes and production batches?

Include prototype quantity and expected repeat quantity in the inquiry. Batch size, process route and lead time are confirmed after the drawing and specification review.
